EU Council President Arrives in India for Free Trade Agreement

President of the European Council Antonio Costa arrived in India on Sunday amid efforts by the European Union and New Delhi to conclude a free trade agreement, culminating nearly two decades of negotiations. Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will be the guests of honor at Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on Monday, ahead of the EU-India summit on Tuesday, where they hope to sign what has been considered the 'mother of all agreements'. The European Council said the summit 'will be an opportunity to build on the strategic partnership and enhance cooperation in key policy areas'. India is expected to become the world's fourth-largest economy this year, according to the International Monetary Fund.
